In her artistic work and as a curator and editor, Franziska Winkler deals with transmedial literary translations and their border crossings. Together with Katharina Mevissen, she founded the literary initiative handverlesen in 2017, for which she has since been the artistic project director. Handverlesen takes literature in hand, translates, conveys and disseminates literature in German Sign Language and thus sets texts in motion.
Franziska Winkler grew up as the daughter of deaf parents. She first studied Cultural and Media Studies (BA) at the University of Bremen and Yeditepe University Istanbul. Today she is studying Deaf Studies (BA) at the Humboldt University in Berlin. She lives and works in Berlin.
