Michael Graessner, born 1969, studied stage design and costume design at the UdK Berlin with Achim Freyer. Michael Graessner worked for a time as a dancer in Freyer's ensemble. At the same time he worked in film and television, among others for the group Rammstein, together with Philipp Stölzl. As a stage designer he worked with numerous directors and designed spaces for entire seasons in Frankfurt, at the Munich Kammerspiele and at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin and many other German-speaking theaters and opera houses. Since 2001 Graessner has had a close collaboration with Peter Kastenmüller and Björn Bicker. In collaboration with theaters such as the Staatsschauspiel Stuttgart, the Hamburger Schauspielhaus, the Goethe Institute and the Akademie der Künste Berlin, they often work at the interface between theater and social intervention. Currently, Michael Graessner combines his work as scenographer and performer in the theater collective FARN, a group of theater professionals around the actress Sandra Hüller and the director Tom Schneider. Michael Graessner lives in Berlin with his partner and theater writer Lisa Danulat.
