Jannis Panagiotidis is a historian and migration researcher. He is the academic director of the Research Center for the History of Transformations (RECET) at the University of Vienna. Previously, he was an assistant professor of migration and integration of Russian Germans at the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at the University of Osnabrück. He completed his PhD at the European University Institute in Florence in 2012. In his first book The Unchosen Ones (Indiana University Press 2019), he wrote about diaspora migration and the construction of co-ethnic belonging in Germany and Israel. His second book Post-Soviet Migration in Germany (Beltz Juventa Verlag 2021) is about ethnic German immigrants and Jewish contingent refugees in West German society. In his new project he is working on a history of freedom of movement.
