Until the outbreak of war in 1992, Faruk Šehić studied Veterinary Medicine in Zagreb. During war he led a unit of 130 men as a lieutenant. The literary critics regard him as the voice of the so-called mangled generation.
He was awarded with European Union Prize for Literature 2013. His books are translated into dozens of languages. Two books are translated into german language: Abzeichen aus Fleisch (tr: Hana Stojić), poetry volume (Edition Korrespondenzen 2011) and short stories collection Uhrwerkgeschichten (tr: Elvira Veselinović, Mimesis Verlag 2020).
He lives temporarily in Berlin regarding DAAD fellowship for writers.
