Droste Festival 2022 -
City/Country in Flux

Everyone is talking about urban areas and rural areas - but what exactly do we mean by these terms? Who wants to move out of the metropolis and why? Haven’t a large number of us lived in suburbs and intermediate cities for quite some time already for which we have to find a new language? And who is talking about urban areas and the countryside? And especially the city? In the 2022 edition of the Droste Festival, we will take a look at rural perspectives and dedicate ourselves to rurban realities.

»I think she finds Rüschhaus dreadfully lonely and had imagined something quite different from a life in the countryside so close to Münster, a kind of garden house parade where one would see the entire city walking past and half of it getting involved.«

— Annette von Droste-Hülshoff to Elise Rüdiger, 1843

Under the title Stadt/Land im Fluss (City/Country in Flux), we invite you to join us from June 16 to 19 in Haus Rüschhaus at the city limits of Münster. In this place, Annette von Droste-Hülshoff wrote about the solitude of life in the countryside. And missed the conviviality of the city. We will transform the place into the grounds of a festival and celebrate the great poet with readings, film screenings, concerts, picnic performances, installations and walks. Welcome to the party!

On each day of the festival, there will be a changing assortment of finger food and drink options available on the festival grounds.

We are offering childcare on Saturday from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm and on Sunday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
