A digital exhibition, parallel to the usual permanent exhibition in the Droste Museum. Using tablet computers, the world of the poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff will be superimposed on our world. It transforms the museum into something that it is not in the physical world: a critical confrontation with its own history, its origin and its own effects upon the here-and-now. At the end of the day, is the museum its own deep fake?

Does the museum end up being its own Deep Fake?

Special exhibition? Where?

You can find our digital special exhibition in the exhibition rooms of the Droste Museum at Hülshoff Castle, and yet at the same time you can't. The objects of The Biedermeier Phantasm | Deep Fake have been carefully dusted off and carefully placed in their showcases with white cotton gloves - and yet you won't find them there. Because our special exhibition is digital, it is "augmented" and shows you an augmented reality between the walls of the castle fortress.

You can access augmented reality on tablets that guide you through the exhibition. How does looking through the tablet's camera change your view of reality? What in these rooms is actually real, is original, is authentic and what is fake? In the display of the devices, digital representations overlay the seemingly analog Biedermeier reality. You may filter, zoom, type, slide, turn and wipe, you may (finally!) intervene in the exhibition.

It's Augmented Reality, Biedermeier baby.

You will also see a particularly fluid exhibit in the special digital exhibition, #SPOILER#.

Namely the film Timeline by Daniel Laufer. Timeline was partly filmed at Hülshoff Castle and inscribes itself into the historical space of the Droste Museum - so in the film you see rooms in which you are currently standing yourself #what?#. In it, Laufer reflects on the staging of space and his own awareness of the passing of time.
