Viola Hildebrand-Schat is an art historian with a focus on contemporary art, especially Russia. Her research focuses on the text-image relationship in the broadest sense, i.e. artists' books, the book in artistic access, and narrative structures.
Viola Hildebrand-Schat teaches at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and at the Lomonosov University in Moscow. After studying visual communication, she worked in book design and advertising for publishing houses and completed a master's degree in literary studies. In both her doctorate and her post-doctoral thesis she dealt with art historical topics.
