Bernhard Studlar, born in Vienna in 1972, studied scenic writing at the UdK Berlin from 1998-2002. He was awarded, among others, the Kleist-Förderpreis and the prize of the Heidelberger Stückemarkt. His play Transdanubia Dreaming premiered at the Burgtheater Vienna in 2003. Since then he has been working as a freelance playwright. Commissioned works for the Burgtheater Vienna, Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Schauspielhaus Graz, Theater Heidelberg, among others. He writes for adults as well as for children and young people.2005 he founded, together with director Hans Escher, the intercultural author*ing theater project WIENER WORTSTAETTEN (www.wortstaetten.at), where he is still active today as artistic director.Most recently, the play Night without Stars (premiere, March 2017, directed by Jan Luteran) was commissioned by the Slovak National Theater Bratislava, as well as the immersive theater project Seestadt-Saga and the play Digitalis Trojana at Schauspielhaus Wien. (Saison2017/2018)Together with his Swiss co-author Andreas Sauter he is currently writing the play Waiting for Tear Gas. Bernhard Studlar lives in Vienna.
