Poetry Path

Big plans: two poetry hiking paths will connect Burg Hülshoff and Rüschhaus even more visibly. This Droste landscape will become an outdoor museum with multimedia artistic stations.

The Annette von Droste zu Hülshoff Foundation has been working with the idea of a poetry path for years. This path will connect Burg Hülshoff and Rüschhaus in the near future - as well as both places Droste-Hülshoff lived. The Center for Literature will now drive this project forward.

Once she lived in Rüschhaus, Annette von Droste-Hülshoff hiked regularly between there and Burg Hülshoff. The landscape in this space in the between the two locations is a lively and powerful counterpart in many of her texts.

The poetry path seizes precisely upon this. It will make the Droste landscape texts of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff as well as those of contemporary authors audible and visible to visitors traveling by foot, wheelchair or bicycle.

In short documentary segments, it will also present everyday culture in the 19th century as well as today.

And it will address the changes in the environment as well as those in our awareness of these exactly where Droste-Hülshoff herself experienced them and transformed them into language with skillful precision.

This diverse thematic landscape will consist of numerous interactive media stations along two circular trails - one leading from Burg Hülshoff in the direction of Rüschhaus and the other from Rüschhaus in the direction of Burg Hülshoff. This one-of-a-kind outdoor museum comes into being through stations with headphones and monitors planted in nature, via tablets and smartphones, real reality and augmented reality.

Over the course of the Regionale 2016 program, the poetry path was developed as an exemplary model for the palace and castle landscape of the Münster region.

A third step is currently being planned alongside the poetry path and the museums in Burg Hülshoff and Rüschhaus: a contemporary literature museum in the manor house of the castle.
